A historical note: in 1986 all ROCAF units, including the Honor Guard, changed their flags to a fringed version of the Air Force flag, with the unit name in black letters on a white strip near the hoist. However in 1992 the Honor Guard alone readopted the old 'Red Ensign' design as its unit flag.

The ROC Air Force Honor Guard formed in Feb. 1956, according to the history posted on the website of the Veterans Honor Guard of ROC
By the way, I heard that the Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense is preparing to edit and publish the history of the Armed Forces Honor Guards. So, I believe that we will get the official public information soon.

ROC Air Force Academy changed its flag in 1986, because not only the academy but all the ROC Air Force's units always follow the acts of military ensigns, and the illustration instituted in the act was revised in 1986.

Actually it should be de facto 1981-1986. As Mr Oyo pointed out, Air Force unit flags were changed to a fringed version of the Air Force Flag at that time, and Air Force Honor Guard followed suit, as seen during the 1988 National Day Parade. However the Air Force Honor Guard reverted to the old 'red ensign' from the 1992 National Day Parade onward.
